Vaccinations

Saturday...We went downtown and visited Auntie Helen and Dr Hwang again today.  Auntie Helen weighed me and measured how long I am.  I've grown to a weight of 17 pounds and a length of 22 inches now.  And to think that I started out at only nine pounds, five ounces, and 21 inches!

Dr Hwang examined me and gave me three shots -- my second vaccinations for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough) (DTap); haemophilus influenzae type b (HIB); and polio (IPV).  Dr Hwang is such a nice lady -- why does she always have to hurt me?  Mommy comforted me and told me that the shots were for my own good, so I managed a smile for Dr Hwang after I stopped crying.

During her examination, Dr Hwang said she could hear sounds coming from my left hip socket when she checked my legs for range of motion.  She didn't think it meant anything, but said we should get x-rays taken, just to be sure.  I tried to tell Mommy and Daddy that I didn't want any x-rays (whatever they are), but they wouldn't listen.

We drove over to the Ala Moana building and visited the Radiology lab on the fifth floor.  Daddy put me down on a cold hard bed.  Then one doctor held my legs still while another doctor pushed a button to shoot me with x-rays.  I was crying too much for Daddy to comfort me, so Mommy stood next to me while the doctors shot me again.

What was that all about?  The x-rays didn't hurt, but why can't those doctors get a nice, soft, warm bed for their patients?  And why did they have to hold my legs still?  And why didn't I get a nice apron to wear like everybody else?  Oh well...

The doctors told Mommy and Daddy, just like I tried to tell them before, that there was nothing to worry about.  My hip socket looks perfect.  I'm just one of those special people who have noisy bones.  Mommy and Daddy were soooo relieved!

I spent most of the rest of the day roaming around stores with Mommy and Daddy.  We went to Palama  Supermarket in Kalihi, Walmart in Mililani, Office Max in Waikele, and the Navy Exchange in Pearl Harbor before we finally got home.

I was so sleepy, I let Daddy cradle me in his arms while we danced to "Over the Rainbow," "Sentimental Journey," and "Buttons and Bows."  I didn't fall all the way asleep, though, until Mommy held me in her lap.  Goodnight, everybody...
