Great Aloha Run

Monday (Presidents Day)...Mommy and Daddy got me up really early today.  After Mommy bathed, dressed, and fed me, we all drove down to Aloha Stadium.  We walked through the parking lot and got in line with a whole bunch of other people.  Then I went on my very first bus trip – it took us downtown to the corner of Bishop Street and Vineyard Blvd.

Mommy and Daddy pushed me in my stroller from there to the Aloha Tower, where we began the Great Aloha Run.  Sometimes Mommy pushed me in my stroller, but most of the time Daddy did.  We traveled right down the middle of the road at Mommy’s fast-walking treadmill pace, weaving around a lot of the other racers.  It was a lot of fun – there were so many people!  Some bands played music for us and some other people cheered us on from the side of the road as we passed by.

Along the way we met some other runners we knew, too – Bunkim and John Meyer from apartment 204, Jill and Ben Schorr and Kim and John Steffey from Daddy’s softball team, and Emily, Dr Tsai’s receptionist.  Emily was really surprised to see how big I’d grown – she hadn’t seen me since I was about a month old.  When we got close to HITS, at about the 5-mile mark, Deanna Tom, Bayani Panis, and Pat Balmores came out to take our pictures and cheer us on….

Finish Line

…Two hours, twenty-four minutes, and eight miles from where we started, we entered Aloha Stadium and crossed the finish line.  We picked up our “finisher” tee-shirts and then had a nice picnic lunch with Mr Yang (from Mu Ryang Sa Temple) and the rest of his Hawaii Korean Running Club mates.  After they all left, Mommy and Daddy and I walked through the stadium and sat down at one of the outdoor snack-bar areas.  There we met Auntie Mel and her cute baby, Tiare.  We had a lot of fun talking and playing together.

Finally, it was time to go home.  I played with Mommy and Daddy and my toys in the living room for the rest of the day.  Mommy and Daddy were too tired to go outside again.  Now it’s time for sweet dreams.  Goodnight, everybody…
