Tia's having a very Merry Christmas today -- lots of presents!

Tia Melody Hancy

Hello everybody!  I was born June 3rd, 2000, at 9:43 AM, in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I made a lot of friends during my stay in Hawaii, but I really can't remember them anymore. I enjoy living here in Korea now. I've made a lot of new friends, and I'm close to Halmoni (Gramma) and all of my aunties and uncles and cousins. I was very close to my Harabeoji (Grampa), too, until he died in 2007.

I've been going to school since I was two years old -- for a year at the Salt Lake branch of Kama'aina Kids Preschool in Honolulu, and then two years at the Yongsan Child Development Center in Seoul. I loved my teachers, Ms Kimberly and Mr Daniel. I loved to play with my best friends, Hannah and Josie, too. I was lovin' life and livin' large! Omma (Mommy) and Appa (Daddy) and Halmoni and Harabeoji lavished so much love and attention on me that I didn't have a care in the world. Omma took care of me, played with me, read with me, and sang with me. Appa played ball with me, drew pictures with me, built puzzles with me, danced with me, played hide-and-seek with me, and went for walks with me to the playground and to the Han River Park.

Soon after I turned five years old, I changed schools again -- to Seoul American Elementary School.  I enjoyed Kindergarten to the hilt in Ms. Wilkerson's and Ms. Kennedy's class. They kept us very busy, but we loved it. Elizabeth and Julie were my new best friends. My favorite TV show was "Doraemon."

Then I graduated to Ms. Kang's class in first grade, where my new best friends were Amanda and Emma. After school I started taking Taekwondo, piano, and Korean language lessons. I earned a black belt with my new friend Molly. She and I took Taekwondo and Korean language lessons together. My favorite TV show was "Doraemon."

Ms Kane was my second grade teacher. My new best friends were Kitty and Kailianne. I still took piano lessons, but I switched from Taekwondo to squash lessons with my good friend Julia, who also joined with me in Korean language lessons. Molly and I took swimming lessons together twice a week after school. Our families got together often on the weekends, too. When I was at home, I liked to draw and read and watch TV ("Drake & Josh") and movies ("Harry Potter") with Omma and Appa. They made me study a lot, though, too. I joined the school swim team in the summer with Molly and her big sister Megan, Claire and her little brother Carlito, and Stephanie. We all won lots of races and medals. Our moms and dads cheered for us a lot!

Ms Erickson was my third grade teacher. My new best friends were Julie (from Kindergarten class) and Hailey. I stopped all of my lessons to concentrate on studying for the Terranova test. My favorite TV shows were "Hannah Montana" and "Zack & Cody." My favorite movies were "Doraemon" and "Harry Potter."

During the summer, I started taking art lessons with Julia. I also went to Camp Adventure on week days with my two best pals from Preschool, Hannah and Josie. It was great to be together with them again. Camp Adventure was kind of a cross between summer school and summer camp. We met at the Yongsan Youth Center every day. We practiced arts and crafts, played sports, went swimming and bowling, and even went on field trips.

Then Mom & Dad & I took a great summer vacation trip to America. I met lots of relatives -- some whom I'd never met before. I visited lots of fun places, too -- like the San Diego Zoo; Disneyland; Universal Studios; Cleveland, Ohio; Niagara Falls; New York City; and Washington, D.C.  It was a great summer!

Now I'm back in school again. Ms. Ganster is my fourth grade teacher. Science and math are my favorite subjects. I have lots of homework every night, but I still find time for swimming, art, piano, and Korean language lessons -- and for playing with my friends, of course!
