 | 2005 | |
2005 was another adventure-packed year for Omma (Mommy), Appa (Daddy), and me. As the year began, we were enjoying our view of the Han River from our apartment in Seoul, South Korea. I was in my last year of preschool in Ms. Kimberly’s Preschool-D class at Yongsan Child Development Center; Omma was working on her Bachelor’s degree, attending University of Maryland classes on Yongsan; and Appa was working as an IT specialist for the Army at Yongsan Army Garrison. In January, I had lots of fun playing with my friends at preschool and Omma and Appa at home. Appa and I braved the cold sometimes and played outside at the playgrounds and at the Han River Park sometimes. In February, at school I had to say goodbye to my good friends Hunter and McKenna, but I got to say hello to some new friends, too: Jaeda, Makiah, and Keely. Omma and Appa and I celebrated Lunar New Year’s at Halmoni (Gramma) and Harabeoji (Grampa)’s house. On President’s Day, I went on a subway trip with Appa to Yongsan Electronics Mart – he bought me “The AristoCats” DVD. In March, I had a great Easter party at preschool. Omma and Appa took me to Everland Amusement Park, too. That was so much fun! In April, the cherry blossoms bloomed. I got my face painted at the Yongsan Community Fun Fair. In May, the weather became really warm, so I spent a lot of time outside with Daddy, playing on the playgrounds and at Han River Park. Omma and Appa and I spent Memorial Day Weekend on beautiful Jeju Island, at the southern-most tip of Korea. We flew there and back on an airplane, met some new friends (Yasmine and Ana), explored the whole island on a bus, and spent the nights in a hotel. We had so much fun! In June, we celebrated my fifth birthday. I had a great party at school, and then Omma and Appa and I celebrated some more at the Dragon Hill Lodge and Katusa Snack Bar. Later in the month, we visited the zoo and arboretum at Namsan. In July, we had a nice family outing at Dobongsan. Then Omma went with me on a school field trip to the zoo. Later in the month, Omma and Appa and I spent a wonderful vacation in China. We visited the Forbidden City, Great Wall, and Beijing Zoo in Beijing, the terra cotta warriors in Xian, and the scenic Li River Valley in Guilin. In August, we celebrated Harabeoji’s and Appa’s birthdays. Then we celebrated Appa’s promotion to GS-13. And on the last day of the month, Ms. Kennedy and Ms. Wilkerson, my new Kindergarten teachers, came to visit Omma and Appa and me at our home. They were very nice. In September, I graduated from Preschool and started attending Kindergarten. I really missed Ms. Kimberly and all my old classmates, but at least Shirlysia and I stayed together in the same Kindergarten class. I made some new friends, too. Omma and Appa and I celebrated Chusok (Korean Thanksgiving) at Halmoni and Harabeoji’s apartment. In October, Appa started back to school to begin work on his Master’s degree. Omma decided to take a break from working on her Bachelor’s degree. I had to study my alphabet for Kindergarten. We celebrated Omma and Appa's anniversary ten days late with an overnight stay at the Dragon Hill Lodge. We celebrated Halloween a couple days early at the Maxwells’ house. Daddy, Uncle David, Elizabeth, and I went trick-or-treating around their neighborhood until Elizabeth and I filled up our candy sacks. Then we handed out candy to the other trick-or-treaters that came to Elizabeth’s front door. In November, Omma and Appa and I went on a school field trip together to the Korean Folk Village. Omma and Appa came to my Thanksgiving class party, too. We celebrated Thanksgiving with a nice turkey dinner at the Paquins' house. We celebrated Omma’s birthday with a brunch at the Dragon Hill Lodge. At the end of the month, I went on a field trip with Omma and Appa to the Dragon Hill Lodge, where we watched Santa Claus arrive on a motorcycle. I gave him the snowflake card that I made in school. In December, I had lots of fun getting ready for Christmas. I mailed Santa Claus a card with my wish for a Barbie Fairytopia Flower House, and then I met him at the Yongsan PX. My classmates and I put on two Christmas caroling concerts for our parents – one at the Dragon Hill Lodge and one at our class Christmas party. And then Christmas came! Thank you, Santa, for being so good to me. Omma and Appa and I hope Santa was good to you, too. Have a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2006! Updated Tuesday, February 26, 2008. | |
